The white T-shirt is a blank canvas. You can wear it alone, splash it with accessories, cover it with a sweater, or, if you are the protagonist of a novel by André Eichmann, throw it away when you improvise swimming in Italy around 1983 Go to the pier. There are hundreds of white T-shirts there. These five styles are our favorites-high-quality, stylish shirts in a variety of styles and prices to suit any budget.

In order to evaluate quality, fit and comfort, I checked 128 pieces online, tested 36 pieces personally, and consulted with a diverse group of fashionable men, including Choire Sicha, editor-in-chief of the New York Times Fashion Edition; founder of Put This On Jesse Thorn; Chubstr's founding editor Bruce Sturgell; Alan Henry, Wired's service editor; and Wirecutter's associate editor Jason Chen. Together, we discovered a widely acclaimed white T-shirt of excellent quality, a more versatile loose-fitting shirt, a super soft slim-fitting T-shirt, and an affordable white with a variety of sizes. T-shirt, and (my personal favorite)) an off-white, high-quality (and expensive) luxury product.

This well-made shirt is very popular with all our testers, regardless of its size. It has a variety of cuts and styles to choose from, and it is breathable and comfortable to wear.

How it feels: soft and very light-very suitable for warm weather and summer.

Reason for listing: J.Crew's ripped short-sleeved white T-shirt meets all requirements: it fits most of our testers very well, has a reasonable structure, and feels comfortable and lightweight. Our group members all love the J.Crew shirt-considering the different preferences of the six people wearing it, finding a pleasing shirt is no easy task. In addition to the Lady White Co. shirt (the price is more than 1.5 times its size and styles), the J.Crew T-shirt is the most acclaimed shirt we have tested.

For the price, the quality of J.Crew shirts is excellent. Although this T-shirt is very light, the cotton fabric is tightly woven and looks particularly white and opaque (but in the test, some shirts are transparent enough to expose the nipples, which is not such a feeling at all). Of course, if you are looking for it, the hem is a bit distorted and the fabric is not as thick as some other white T-shirts we have tried. But the stitches were uniform and straight, and we did not find any loose threads or pilling, which is different from other shirts we tried, including the Bonobos T-shirt, which had a little pilling.

Among all the testers of different sizes, the seams of the J.Crew T-shirts fell on their shoulders just right, and the sleeves were not upturned. The collar is just right, not too narrow or too wide. Wirecutter's associate editor Jason Chen described it as "how a T-shirt should fit." Chen, who wears an M size, also noticed that the length of the shirt fits well, but it is not too long. If he doesn't wear it, the shirt looks sloppy. After washing and drying, this T-shirt shrank a total of 2 inches—less compared to many other shirts we tested in this price range. J.Crew shirts are available in sizes from XS to XXL, which is a good range, but we hope to see further expansion. We tested the standard cut of the shirt, but it is also available in slim and slim styles, the latter's body length and sleeve length have been increased by 2 inches. Alan Henry, the service editor of Wired magazine, wears clothes between XXL and 3XL. He said that XXL’s classic J.Crew fits a bit tightly, but his frame length of 5 feet 7 inches is great. .

"J.Crew is definitely built for comfort," Henry said. Compared with many other T-shirts we tested, it is thinner and lighter in the hand-panel members also rated its breathability and softness. Some of our testers wearing XL size and above complained that it is a bit too thin, but most people find that its weight is perfect, especially when layered under heavier clothes.

Flaws but not spoilers: The J.Crew T-shirt is made of a thinner fabric than the other T-shirts we tested, which is why our testers found it so lightweight. However, some people find it as thin as paper. An XXL tester said that J.Crew would be a good undershirt—a shady comment for something sold as a T-shirt. Another said he would hesitate to wear it.

Size: XS (bust 30 to 32 inches) to XXL (bust 47 to 49 inches) Tailoring: classic, slim, tall Other styles: round neck with pockets, long sleeve round neck, V-neck length: 1

The Bonobos T-shirt has more configurations than any other shirt we tested, and there is also an extended version. It is lumpy and elastic, which our XXL testers especially like.

*At the time of publication, the price was $25.

How it feels: very soft, with a certain degree of flexibility and boxy tailoring.

Reason for the list: It is not just a soft and well-structured T-shirt-Bonobos Soft Everyday T-shirt offers the widest range of styles in addition to the standard round neckline, and also offers extended sizes. It has a boxy cut, and some of our testers prefer it.

Although some of our favorite shirts, including J.Crew, have some differences in cut, length and style, the Bonobos shirt allows you to mix and match more than any other shirt we have found. For sizes smaller than XXL, you can choose a round neck or V-neck, with or without pockets, slim fit or a combination of standard, regular or short. Unfortunately, this flexibility does not extend to the 3XL and 4XL options, and the availability of each specific sub-style may be in stock or out of stock. But there are still more choices than any other brand we recommend.

Our plus size testers called Bonobos their favorite T-shirt for quality, fit and comfort. And all testers agree that Bonobos is stronger and more elastic (and more comfortable) than some of the T-shirts we have tried, but the price is twice that. A tester told us that the shirt was soft to the touch and looked luxurious, and he felt comfortable walking into a good restaurant with Bonobos and a pair of slacks.

Our self-proclaimed "big guy" testers especially recommend Bonobos-although this shirt does not have the absolute largest size in any of our choices (this honor goes to Bella Canvas, size 5XL), it offers quality and The perfect combination of comfort and extended size. You can find T-shirts in sizes from XS to 4XL.

Chubstr's founding editor Bruce Sturgell said that the Bonobos Soft Everyday T-shirt of XXL is a good fit for him, "not too long or too bloated", and the arm length is just right for him. We tested the standard width of this shirt and found that it is proportionally wider than the classic tailored J.Crew, which makes Bonobos a good choice for people with shoulder-width, rectangular or inverted triangle-shaped torso, or just like it or not. So slim tailored person. However, both shirts have slim styles, and their fitting may be different (we did not test them).

The quality of the Bonobos T-shirt is higher than many of the T-shirts we tested, and is comparable to J.Crew, which is about $10 more expensive. Bonobos uses a tightly woven cotton fabric, which is opaque, fits the skin and feels smooth, with solid stitches. After washing and drying, the size M Bonobos shirt shrank by a total of 1.5 inches, which is the smallest of any white T-shirts we have tested.

Flaws but not a spoiler: Not everyone likes the loose fit of Bonobos shirts, especially testers who wear sizes below XXL (someone mentioned that it is big and sloppy). Several testers also noticed its wide neck, and some complained that it looked loose after wearing it.

We also found that the bonobo a little pilled after we washed it-small fabric balls suddenly appeared on the T-shirt, which is not uncommon, but annoying.

Size: XS (35" bust) to 4XL (57" bust) Tailoring: standard, slim (only XXL and smaller sizes) Other styles: V-neck, pocket (only XXL and smaller sizes) Length: regular, short (XXL and smaller sizes) only smaller)

Uniqlo is a classic cheap T-shirt, soft and comfortable, but it is not a super high-quality shirt. It is cut slimmer and fits better than other white T-shirts we have tried.

*At the time of publication, the price was $15.

How it feels: Crisp, like just ironed, but it becomes softer and more comfortable to wear. Its cut is more slender than most other shirts, and the fabric is very thin, and if you look closely, it will appear slightly transparent.

Why it's great: "Uniqlo is not fancy, but its basics are correct," Jesse Thorn of Put This On tells us. In terms of price, Uniqlo is super comfortable, and its price is half of most T-shirts we recommend. It is more suitable for thinner and thinner people, it can be reduced to XXS, and cut more slim than other shirts.

Uniqlo is soft and comfortable, but still has a certain structure and weight. One tester described the shirt as "crispy" at first-but we found that after we washed it a few times, its crispness turned into a comfortable feeling of wear. Nevertheless, it is not as good as the J.Crew or Lady White Co. T-shirts we recommend. The fabric is a bit more transparent than we like-if you try (but you really have to try), you can see the shadow of the nipples. We did not find any loose threads on the shirt during the test, and the hem and sleeves were very good and even.

If you are very slim, Uniqlo may be the best white T-shirt we have found for your body. Its bust is the smallest among the shirts we tested, and it has shrunk by about 3.5 inches after washing. After shrinking, the size of M is only 18½ inches, while our recommended shirt with a looser cut, Bonobos, is the same size, measuring 20 inches. You may want to consider resizing. "Even the medium shirts I tested—sometimes I wear small shirts—feel tight shoulders," Wirecutter associate editor Jason Chen points out. Uniqlo is not only small in size, but it is also the only T-shirt we recommend up to XXS size (maximum can run up to 3XL).

Flaws but not spoilers: Uniqlo runs a bit tight, so most people find it very narrow—especially for testers wearing XXL and 3XL sizes. If you are more comfortable with something bigger, consider increasing the size if you can.

Size: XXS (bust 31 to 33 inches) to 3XL (bust 50 to 53 inches) Cut: One width Other styles: V-neck length: One

Lady White Co. is the highest quality and best tailored T-shirt we have tested. It has a unique structure and strong fabric, but it is also the most expensive T-shirt we recommend and has the most limited size range.

How it feels: The Lady White Co. T-shirt is slim but not tight. It is made of dense and smooth fabrics, close to the heavyweight class, and is exquisitely tailored due to the seamless tubular structure.

Reason for making the list: Lady White Co. T-shirts are known for their structure and high-quality materials. It is made of medium-weight knitted fabric and feels refreshing and cool, more flattering than any other clothes we wear. I want to be buried in it.

This is an extremely high-quality T-shirt, full of details, showing how much it feels right. We especially like the thick cotton, thicker collar and firm stitching. I think Lady White Co. feels great when I wear it for several weeks of prolonged testing-its fabric feels textured, and its thick cotton is thicker and softer than the other white T-shirts I wear. It is made of a tubular structure-which means it does not have any side seams-so it can be hung beautifully on the body. Jesse Thorn of Put This On pointed out that the tubular structure of this shirt is a "huge bonus" in terms of comfort, which can easily and subtly wrap the body.

Lady White Co. shirts are a bit wide at the shoulders, size M is 17 inches wide, and most other high-end brands we have tried have 16 inches at the shoulders. My shoulders are relatively wide, so it fits well. Our testers praised the longer sleeves—compared to the sleeves on many other T-shirts we tested, the sleeves were farther under the arms, under the biceps and above the elbows. "I like that the sleeves of the Lady White T-shirt cover my Shaggy-from-Scooby-Doo biceps," Thorn said. Choire Sicha of The New York Times described the T-shirt as tight on the chest but not tight in the abdomen: "You look more like a wild cat than a chunky unit," he quipped (we will Note that this is a good choice) things).

After washing and drying, the Lady White Co. shirts have shrunk by a total of 1¾ inches-a little bit-so buy your actual size. In other words, the size range of Lady White Co. shirts is the smallest of all T-shirts we recommend, from S to XL.

Lady White Co. shirts are not really bright white like other T-shirts we have seen. You won't notice this yourself, but when compared to a bunch of other options, the outstanding feature of the Lady White Co. shirt is a slight shift to the "canvas" side of the color spectrum. It has a slightly remote look of an old-fashioned jersey, and we finally fell in love with it. These shirts are also more expensive than any other shirts we recommend: each Lady White Co. shirt is about $15 more expensive than our recommended J.Crew shirt, and you are likely to buy two at a time. If you don't want two white shirts, Lady White Co. also sells this shirt in mixed colors, black and white or off-white.

Flaws but not a spoiler: The Lady White Co. T-shirt has two reasons: it is only available in four sizes, and it is not a true "white" T-shirt.

Since this T-shirt is only available in sizes S to XL, we can only test it by three members in a five-person team. Although people who have tested T-shirts love it, the size range is a limitation (unfortunately, we found one among many high-end shirts). It is also more off-white than other white T-shirts, which may discourage some people who want a shirt as white as you can find.

Size: S (36 inches breast) to XXL (44 inches breast) Cut: One width Other styles: No length: One

This ultra-affordable, high-quality shirt has a wide range of sizes. Our XXL and larger testers especially liked the fit and comfortable weight of this shirt. But zoom in because it will zoom out.

How it feels: Medium-weight cotton cloth, a bit stretchy (but it has a bad habit of deformation when pulled too far); its skin is not as soft as our other options, and it shrinks significantly during the test.

Why it's great: The stretchy Bella Canvas unisex knitted T-shirt is a good-quality shirt at a low price (this is the absolute cheapest option we recommend). It is comfortable enough and has the widest range of sizes of any T-shirt we have tested, from XS to 5XL.

In addition to the extremely affordable price, the Bella Canvas unisex jersey T-shirt proved to be of good quality during testing, with a strong structure and beautiful stitching. This material is flexible and the weight is very comfortable, which works well with our larger testers. All testers agree that Bella Canvas is very comfortable to wear. It is very soft-although not the softest we have tested. Wired's Alan Henry noticed its double seamed hem. This sturdy feature made him feel that he could wear Bella Canvas on his body without worrying about showing his belly to the world.

"Perhaps because I'm a big man," Henry pointed out, "but I like this fit. It's a good size and hangs on me long enough that I can wear a T-shirt over my pants or tuck it into my pants." However, for some of our testers, its length was too long-after shrinking, the M size was still 27 inches long, while the others we wore were 25 inches long. If you have a long torso or a big belly, that may be what you want, but otherwise it may be too long to fit in. Bella Canvas also shrinks a lot when we wash and dry it, so make sure you choose at least one larger size or hang it to dry.

Bella Canvas is very cheap, but there is a problem. Since it is mainly sold as a blank for the company to print a logo on it (you may already have one from a fun run or company retreat), you can usually get less than a blank clothing seller such as Clothing Shop or Shirt Space Buy some shirt sizes for $4, but you may need to search around to find your size. Michael's reliably stocks this shirt for $10, but only 3XL at most, while other sellers can up to 5XL. It is also sometimes available on Amazon, but its size and color are intermittent.

Flaws but not spoilers: Although our testers who wore large sizes liked Bella Canvas, those who wore sizes M to XL didn't like it that much. Those testers had a lot of complaints: its label was irritating to the skin, and it was too boxy for their body.

Size: XS (bust 31 to 34 inches) to 4XL (bust 58 to 61 inches), 5XL (size not listed) Cut: one width Other styles: no length: one

I am a fashion writer for Wirecutter, so I compare, test and write about everything you can carry or wear with you, from handbags to sunglasses to T-shirts. In this guide, I read a lot of T-shirt reviews from trusted sources to better understand what a great T-shirt is—but I also rely on my own aesthetic judgment. Then I met with Wirecutter’s staff writer Jackie Reeve (who wrote a guide on the best robes and pajamas for men and women) to determine the best way to test fabric quality and shrinkage.

We listed 128 T-shirts at the beginning of this guide. These T-shirts come from popular retailers, other reviews and roundups. For this piece, we focus on selling shirts that are "men's", although they can be worn by people of any gender. The tailoring of these shirts is different from "women's" shirts. Their seams are straight, the same size from the chest to the waist, or there is a very small taper.

Then, we eliminated T-shirts with pockets or fancy logos because we wanted the shirts to have a simple aesthetic. Many of the shirts we tested were available in a variety of colors, but this did not affect our decision, as we were completely focused on white T-shirts. We also visited several retail stores in the New York City area (before the pandemic) to test the feel and fit of the shirt. We avoid wearing T-shirts with short sleeves or rough textures. We use the following criteria to further narrow the list:

Structure: We are always looking for high-quality, well-structured T-shirts that we think will last a long time. We did a lot of poking, poking, and pulling. We carefully looked for the well-made collars with uniform stitches and no loose threads at the seams, so that they won't stick out when you pull them over your head.

Fabric: Our goal is to make "medium weight" shirts as much as possible, but we don't think this is a hard limit. More importantly, the opacity of the shirt-or the ability to hide our nipples correctly, I personally think this is a very important quality. We also like shirts with a little stretch (while still being 100% cotton), so we can wear them whether we plan to eat a good breakfast or not.

Shrinkage rate: We measured the size of each white T-shirt, then washed and dried them twice, paying attention to any shrinkage or stretching. Some size changes are normal, so as long as the shirt still fits before and after washing, we don't think this will ruin the deal. But we considered the degree of size change.

Comfort: The feel of the fabric on our skin is very important, which is understandable. We considered the feel of the fabric-is it soft and easy to wear or hard and heavy.

Look: Of course, one's aesthetic preferences are completely subjective. But we still found to ask a very important question, "Do I look good on this dress? Will I pay to wear it?" We considered various tailored shirts—those with different necklines, hem, and overall length— —We think that our choices all provide a different and equally satisfying appearance.

Price: We considered a series of white T-shirts with prices ranging from US$6 to US$295. (We didn't expect to recommend a $300 shirt, but we wanted to provide an expensive example as a comparison point.) We found a significant difference in quality between a $5 T-shirt and a $15 T-shirt. There was another jump between T-shirts priced between $25 and $50. But anything over $50 is ultimately not interesting enough and worth the price.

I grouped the remaining shirts into price ranges, so I didn't directly compare the $60 shirt with the $6 shirt, and then I personally tested the 36 shirts in the list using the above criteria. I wear each shirt in size M to check comfort and fit, and carefully check the fabric, seams and details. Then I washed and dried each shirt twice to see how they perform in the washing. Before and after these washings, I measured the shoulder width, bust and sleeve length, as well as the length from the collar to the hem, to calculate the total shrinkage.

I found seven T-shirts worthy of further testing. In order to obtain a series of opinions, I sent them to a panel of experts for blind testing (covering the label with tape to rule out any potential brand bias). Since I completed the initial tests and research, I have not been a member of the group, but in my previous tests, I wore M size on every shirt. Testers include: Wirecutter's associate editor Jason Chen (size M); Choire Sicha, editor of the New York Times style section (size L); Put This On founder Jesse Thorn (size XL); Chubstr founding editor Bruce Sturgell (size XXL); and Wired's service editor Alan Henry (size 3XL).

We like the slim fit and super soft touch of Kotn Essential Crew. But we found that it shrank by about 7 inches during testing, which is more than other shirts of the same price. There are also reports of the same problem online, so this shirt did not enter our final round of testing. If you machine wash Kotn T-shirts in cold water and hang them to dry, you should be able to avoid any shrinkage. Or you can increase the size. If you are willing to do any of these things, we think Kotn is a nice and comfortable T-shirt.

The Knickerbocker T-shirt looks different from any other white T-shirt we tested. It is not really white (it is advertised as "milk" color). Its collar is more conspicuous and bulkier than the flat collar on other T-shirts we tested. And it is at least an inch shorter than the others. The tailoring aesthetics here are very popular, and if it appeals to you, this is an attractive and comfortable shirt.

Although the Save Khaki United Supima crew neck T-shirt is too tight to choose, it is a good white T-shirt for those who are particularly slim or want to try a larger size, but we think a $50 shirt should fit better . Choire Sicha of The New York Times pointed out that the tightness of this T-shirt on his arm makes his biceps look "hot", and honestly, this is also a priority for me. If you don't mind a tight white T-shirt with no room for imagination, this is worth considering.

In terms of price, the Reigning Champ Pima Jersey T-shirt is comfortable to wear, but there are some unique style options that we don’t like, including the label on the outside of the T-shirt and thick black stitching. These things are not necessarily unattractive. They are just different. T-shirts are very comfortable to wear, so if it meets your aesthetic preferences, this is a good choice.

In addition to these white T-shirts that we tested and rejected, we also rejected more than 90 other T-shirt competitors without testing them for various reasons, from their large number of negative customer reviews to ugly logos. And then to the serious report. shrink.

Many of the cheap white T-shirts we tested had similar problems. Shirts such as The Fruit of the Loom Men's Stay Tucked Crew T-shirt, Kirkland Signature 6-piece men's set, Gildan Classic short-sleeved T-shirt, Amazon Essentials Men's Standard 2 short-sleeved round neck T-shirts and other shirts, and Calvin Klein Men's Cotton Classic T-shirts are just simple undershirts. They are very thin and do not provide enough coverage on the sleeves. What they provide is twisted seams and transparent fabrics.

The Alternative Apparel Go-To T-Shirt and Alternative Apparel Organic Cotton Crew T-Shirt are good white T-shirts, but not as good as the J.Crew T-shirts we recommend, at the same price. Their shoulders are too tight, making it difficult for me to move my arms.

The necks of American Apparel Unisex-Adult Fine Jersey Crewneck Short Sleeve T-Shirt, 2-Pack and Everlane's The Cotton Crew are very loose, and we expect this to deteriorate with wear. The Entireworld Classic T also has a wide neck. At the time of writing, there are no sizes except XS.

American Giant Classic Cotton Crew T and Mott & Bow Classic Crew Driggs are good enough T-shirts, but they did not impress us in the test. Especially the American Giant T-shirt, the vertical length is shorter than what we like.

The Banana Republic soft washed round neck T-shirt shrank by nearly 3 inches as we walked through the washing machine and dryer-which is much larger than other similarly priced shirts. It also has a strange-looking gray lining on its collar. The Banana Republic Authentic Supima Cotton Crew-Neck T-shirt is a bit rough and more transparent than we like.

The sleeves and overall length of the Every World Recycled Cotton Classic Trash T-shirt are longer than other T-shirts we tested.

We tested the Gap Classic White T-shirt with our panel, but most of the testers thought it was too much like an undershirt and the sleeve shape was strange. Sicha of The New York Times said it has a "sleeping bag aesthetic."

Goodfellow & Co Men's Standard Fit Short Sleeve Lyndale Crew Neck T-Shirt feels harsher than its competitors, and its neck is wrinkled.

Goodthreads Men's Slim Short Sleeve is not a strong competitor; it wrinkles easily in the test, and the neck quickly starts to sag.

H&M's regular-fit round neck T-shirt has a strange fit. Its neck is very tight, its sleeves are too short, and its width is disproportionately wide—the bottom of the shirt is tighter than the middle. Dickies short-sleeved heavyweight round neck T-shirt is also tight around the neck, enough to make us feel uncomfortable wearing it.

The Old Navy Moisture-wicking Crew Neck T-shirt is too long to wear and is about 2 inches longer than any white T-shirt we recommend here. Although you can plug it in easily, we prefer to recommend something that you don't need to plug in.

Although Mr. P’s cotton knit T-shirt, Rag & Bone’s standard problem cotton knit T-shirt, Theory’s The Essential T-shirt and Todd Snyder Made In LA Broken-In T-shirt, there is nothing special wrong (Todd Snyder white T-shirt There is indeed an ugly label at the bottom), they are not as good as the ones we picked. They do not have the same tubular structure as Lady White Co. T-shirts.

The Acne crew neck T-shirt we tested had an ugly logo on the chest. And, despite the strong recommendation, the bottom of Stevenson Loopwheeled Crew Neck also has an unsightly logo, and its off-white is darker than our recommended Lady White Co..

We tested the Brunello Cucinelli cotton knitted T-shirt for fun, but it did not make us believers. This is a very nice slim white T-shirt that needs to be hand-washed and ironed to maintain its appearance. But since its price is more than US$300, I would prefer that this shirt can be cleaned by itself.
